7 to be charged in Salilig hazing-slay case
(UPDATE) THE Department of Justice (DoJ) said it will file hazing charges against seven suspects involved in the death of Adamson University (AdU) student John Matthew Salilig.In a statement on Wednesday, Justice spokesman Mico Clavano said a panel of prosecutors found probable cause to file charges against Earl Anthony Osita Romero alias "Slaughter," Tung Cheng Benitez Teng Jr. alias "Nike," Jerome Ochoco Balot alias "Allie," Sandro Dasalla Victorino alias "Loki," Michael Lambert Alcazar Ricalde alias "Alcazar," Mark Muñoz Pedrosa alias "Macoy" and Daniel delos Reyes Perry alias "Sting."The suspects had recruited Salilig to join the Tau Gamma Phi Grand Fraternity or Triskellion AdU chapter.The panel said they planned and participated in paddling or performing welcoming rites to Salilig last Feb. 18, 2023, in Biñan City, Laguna, which led to his death and injuries to the other neophyte recruit, Roi Osmond dela Cruz.Two separate charges against the respondents will also be filed before the Biñan Regional Trial Court (RTC).Dela Cruz is the complainant in the other case.Salilig's cadaver was found in a vacant lot at the back of a subdivision in Imus City, Cavite, weeks after he went missing.The fraternity members in his school were implicated in his death.Aside from the charges, Clavano said more anti-hazing complaints were filed on March 10, 2023, against other people allegedly involved in the incident.Salilig's brother, John Michael, and dela Cruz are the complainants in the first complaint where the respondents were identified as Mark Jios Rama aka "JI," Levi Mark Gianan aka "Sakmal," Ryan Ray Camangyan aka "Snoop," Arjay Bryle Arao aka "Vash/Bash," Christian Mercado aka "Void," Lester John Sus aka "Biggie," Carlos Miguel Rovillos aka "Bishop," Earl Miguel Ursolino aka "Thugs," Aron James Cruz aka "Bones," Ralph Benjamin Tan aka "Scottie," Armando Hernandez Jr. aka "Tyler," and one John Doe aka "Mc Gregor."Another complaint was filed by Alexander Marcelo and Earl Justine Abuda against Earl Anthony Romero alias "Slaughter," Jerome Balot aka "Allie," Sandro Victorino alias "Loki," Michael Lambert Ritalde alias "Lambert," Mark Pedrosa alias "Macoy," Daniel Perry alias "Sting," Armando Hernandez Jr. alias "Tyler," Levi Mark Gianan alias "Sakmal," Mark Jios Rama alias "JI," Ryan Ray Camangyan alias "Snoop," Ar-Jay Bryle Arao alias "Vash/Bash," Christian Mercado alias "Void," Lester John Sus alias "Biggie," Carlos Miguel Rovillos alias "Bishop," Earl Miguel Ursolino alias "Thugs," Aron James Cruz alias "Bones," Ralph Benjamin Tan alias "Scottie," and a John Doe alias "Mc Gregor."
