The new equipment has begun shipping to 23 Reuters locations worldwide, marking the latest chapter in the long-standing partnership between Reuters and Sony. This investment underscores the mutual commitment to delivering timely and high-quality news coverage.
Sony Corporation is pleased to announce that Reuters, one of the world’s largest and most trusted news agencies, has chosen Sony Alpha and XDCAM cameras, along with G Master lenses and advanced audio equipment, to outfit its video journalists across the globe. The newly deployed fleet will primarily utilize the Alpha 7S III and PXW-Z280 cameras, paired with UWP-D wireless audio systems.
Anthony Kable, CCS Group Manager at Sony Australia, stated, “Sony has designed its cameras to perform at their best in high-pressure environments such as news gathering. Our goal is to provide the world’s leading media organizations with reliable cameras that deliver exceptional picture quality, enabling them to capture news as it happens. Reuters' decision to select Sony cameras for its worldwide video team exemplifies this philosophy in action.”
The PXW-Z280 has become an industry standard for its ease of use, electronic variable ND filter, and Sony’s Instant HDR workflow, which eliminates the need for post-production color grading. Its advanced network features and multi-format support allow it to seamlessly integrate into a cloud-based news gathering workflow, ensuring secure and efficient content transfer.
Since its launch, the Alpha 7S III has quickly established itself as the preferred camera for on-location content creators who require a compact form factor without compromising on picture quality. The camera’s advanced autofocus performance and exceptional low-light capabilities were critical in Reuters' selection process. Additionally, Sony’s E-Mount strategy offers journalists the flexibility to capture images in their truest form, especially when paired with the extensive range of Sony lenses, including the SEL2470GM2.
Both the Alpha 7S III and PXW-Z280 are equipped with the connectivity features necessary for seamless and reliable content transfer from the capture location to the remote broadcast unit—a critical capability in news gathering, where speed is paramount.
The new equipment has begun shipping to 23 Reuters locations worldwide, marking the latest chapter in the long-standing partnership between Reuters and Sony. This investment underscores the mutual commitment to delivering timely and high-quality news coverage. Sony’s Media Backbone Hive, already in use at Reuters as its main multi-platform news production system, continues to play a key role in this collaboration.
